There are links to a UK supplier of these items here so you know what is needed, I don't know where in the world you are but you should be able to find these items in your own country: I assume you have the correct USB-to Serial RS-232 adaptor (or a RS232 socket on your PC) and the mount to RS232 cable for the Celestron, this plugs into the AVX hand controller Now open Starry Night Pro and go to the telescope tab, under Telescope Chooser select the Celestron Telescope Driver in the drop down menu, open the properties tab and then select the Com port number you previously noted in the drop down menu, click OK to exit both dialogue boxes and that should be all you need to do, now you can control the AVX directly from Starry Night. ![]() If you change the RS-232 adaptor to another USB socket on your PC at a later stage you will need to go back into the COM -LPT heading in Control Panel - System again to see what the port number has changed to since Windows will change the port number according to which USB socket you are plugged into, and Windows remembers the port allocation so try to always use the same USB socket to make life simple. When you have the USB to Serial RS-232 adaptor and Serial RS-232 to Celestron Mount cable connected to your PC, and the relevant USB to RS-232 drivers installed, then look in Windows Control Panel - System, under Com -LPT and see which port number has been assigned to the RS-232 adaptor, make a note of the port number. Next go to the ASCOM drivers page: download and install the Celestron Unified driver v, this will also include a PDF help file, read this file and it tells you how to set up the driver for controlling the AVX mount, but there are a few extracts below, the Celestron Unified driver will work directly with the AVX and also with the NexRemote software but for Starry Night you just need the basic Celestron Unified driver to control the AVX. Next download and install the full ASCOM v6.2 platform, the link can be found for the download here: Next go to Widows update in the Windows control panel, check for updates and install all the NET framework updates that are pending. I am not sure why you say your AVX mount is not supported by the ASCOM driver, I helped set up a Celestron AVX for a fellow member of my astro club using the older Starry Night Pro 6 software and we were able to issue slew commands, park - wake, GOTO etc all from within Starry Night Pro 6 software, I can't imagine any reason why Starry night Pro 7 would be any different since it complies with the ASCOM standards just the same.įirst install or activate NET framework for Windows v 3.5.1, the instructions how to do this can be found on the ASCOM org web page here: I'm not sure how helpful this will be, I am away travelling, currently in the NW USA waiting for a train up to Canada but have been able to log into my home PC via a hot spot on the station concourse to access some files and images, I probably won't log in to Stargazers Lounge again for another five - six weeks so if you need further help hopefully another forum member will have an answer for you.
